Hammarby have what it takes
Hammarby’s season has taken a sorry turn and now it’s looking like they could be out of the title race. IFK Gothenburg have to be careful here or they could be looking at getting caught up in a relegation battle. For this one Hammarby are easily the better team and it could just be the thing to rouse them back in to action.
Hammarby
One point from the last four matches. Anxiety is starting to build amongst the Hammarby faithful, especially now that a championship is looking increasingly unlikely. The stats for Hammarby at home are definitely on their side. They’re averaging around 2.17 goals a match and only letting in 1.25 so it looks good for Monday.
Djurdic has scored 11, Hamad 8, and Tankovic 7. On top of that they’ve taken 24 points and home in contrast to Gothenburg’s 8 points away from home. Hammarby are the standout contenders to win this one. They’ve got a full set of players available to choose from as well.
IFK Gothenburg
Another match, another defeat. Against AIK midweek they created nothing. IFK have looked alright on occasions at home, but away they’ve been woeful. From the last six matches away from home they’ve only managed to take 1 point. Against relegation bound Dalkurd to boot.
In total they’ve taken only 8 points away from the Ullevi. It’s not surprising really that over the summer they sold their best players: Dahlberg, Eriksson, Diskeryd, Engvall and so on.
They’re playing with fire at the moment, with the relegation zone not far off and their cashflow looks like it’s drying out off the pitch just as badly results have been on the pitch.
The stats say Gothenburg have conceded around 1.91 goals on average away from home, and only scored 1.18. The fact that they’ve not got any injuries or suspensions is perhaps the only positive out of a grim season.
Match Tips
Goal happy Hammarby can count themselves out of the title race now but they’ve certainly not played as badly as results have shown. They’re still going forward and have a solid backline. They’ll dominate Monday evening’s match up against IFK, both myself and the stats are in agreement about that.
