Mexico to make up for matchday one shutout

Matchday two of Group A gets underway on Thursday with firstly Trinidad and Tobago versus El Salvador and the later match of Guatemala against Mexico. Mexico have won four of the last six Gold Cup tournaments and are the number one ranked CONCACAF nation by the Fifa rankings. Guatemala come in 12th in that list, a respectable feat for such a small country. They were struck by a couple of late goals in their opening game 2-0 loss to El Salvador while Mexico shared a goalless draw with the Soca Warriors. There is no value in the outright market so I have dipped into Casumo’s bet builder tool to find value in this encounter.

Last time out

Mexico were even shorter than they are for this upcoming outing against Trinidad and Tobago in the opener, despite 83% possession and having 30 shots to the underdogs’ four they could not break through. This is not a concerning outcome in my opinion, a lot of teams will occupy a low block against the Tricolor should have the resolve to pick the lock in the end. They managed seven shots on target in the game, usually a number that will bring goals. The disappointing result will make them all the more determined to take maximum points from this one, bad news for Guatemala.

Guatemala lost the shot count 21-4 against El Salvador, well beaten, with up and coming player Darwin Lom only given 11 minutes to showcase his abilities. The 23-year-old has scored six goals in just 12 caps, making it a little surprising he was left out of the starting eleven.

Angle

With the lack of attacking potency from Guatemala in the opener, it seemed sensible to look to get a Mexico clean sheet on side, the variance of football makes this an uneasy selection sometimes but with the huge stake of ball possession the Mexicans should account for it will be tough for Guatemala to breach their backline. There is a dutching option with this bet, you can get 3-0 Mexico at 5.25, 4-0 Mexico at 6.25 or even 5-0 Mexico at 9.00 with Casumo. My selection gets all three scorelines onside.

Guatemala really do have their work cut out, Mexico are due a thrashing after the frustrating way matchday one played out. They should take advantage of the low hanging fruit.

Guatemala - Mexico Betting Tip

Both Teams to Score No + Over 2.5 goals with Casumo at odds of 19/20 or 1.95.
