Brazil will seal the deal against the Serbs
When Serbia lost against Switzerland they severely dented their chances of advancing from the group stage. Now they need to win against Brazil. Brazil didn’t do as well as they’d hoped, only managing to score a much-needed goal in the dying minutes of the game. Now it seems like Brazil have had a much needed jolt, and they go in as clear favourites against Serbia.
Serbia
Losing against Switzerland was a difficult one to take for Serbia, no less if it costs them a place in the round of 16. Mitrovic was grappled down in the penalty area and instead of being awarded a penalty it served to allow Shaqiri a brace to go on and score the winning goal in the final minutes of the game.
The Serbs must meet a Brazil side who I think will send them packing
Despite the difficult loss, Serbia have a strong defensive backline and solid midfield with likes of Matic keeping guard. Mitrovic has looked good so far in the tournament, already contributing a few goals. But now the Serbs must meet a Brazil side who I think will send them packing. Serbia will create a few worthwhile chances but not enough to clinch it.
Brazil
Now Brazil are ready to go full steam ahead. It’s taken nearly 180 minutes to start the Canarinhos, and it’s been a tense time for Brazilian fans. Now they’re meeting Serbia in the final group stage game, and even for the mighty Brazil this is a must win match. Had the Brazilians not succeeded in the final minutes against Costa Rica, and Serbia had held up against the Swiss, it would’ve been a completely different story.
It’s hard to not see Brazil taking the bull by the horns
But that isn’t so, and Brazil look to be coming into form just at the right time. This group has given tight games and few goals, and I don’t see why this one would be any different.
Match Tips
When everything is said and done, it’s hard to not see Brazil taking the bull by the horns. It meant a lot that Brazil came through in the dying embers to secure a victory against Costa Rica that they fully deserved. At the same time Serbia could have sealed their own fate by losing their composure so late on. This combination of character at the final edges of a match says a lot about a team under pressure. After all the Brazilians are still one of the favourites on paper.
I’m going for a Brazil win and the match to end in under 3.5 goals at odds of 5/6 (1.83) with Bethard.
