A closer game than expected
BATE Borisov travel to Gorodeya on Saturday afternoon with just a single point separating the two sides. Can BATE start a run to challenge at the top? Have a read of our preview here:
Gorodeya building on last season
It wasn’t until 2015 that Gorodeya made their first appearance in the Belarusian Premier League. They hail from the village of Haradzeya and can be very pleased with their seventh-place finish last season.
They have made a very solid start to the new campaign, bagging nine points from their opening five matches having won each of the last three games.
In none of their first five match-ups this season have both teams scored. They lost their opening two games to nil and have since won three in a row keeping a clean sheet in each of those.
Their win last weekend was particularly impressive away to an in-form Energetik-BGU outfit. Gorodeya defended well and were able to score an excellent goal on the counter-attack, volleyed home by Andrey Sorokin following a superb cross from Lazar Sajcic.
The result puts them sixth in the table as they prepare to host BATE on Saturday.
BATE starting to find their feet
BATE Borisov are always expected to challenge in the Belarusian Premier League due to their strong history domestically, but this season they have taken time to find their feet.
Back-to-back defeats to begin the campaign had some of their supporters worried but they have rallied in recent matches going unbeaten in their last three.
This includes wins against both Rukh Brest and FC Minsk, the latter of which they despatched with a stylish performance. The 0-0 draw at home to Torpedo BeLAZ last weekend was slightly frustrating but given their opponents solid start, it can be seen as a decent result.
They will have to be at their best to beat Gorodeya next weekend and clean-sheets in their last three suggest they are starting to click into gear.
Gorodeya v BATE Borisov betting tip
Even though Gorodeya have started the season well, it is clear that BATE are starting to crank up after being unbeaten in their last three games. That said there is a trend developing which suggests one of these two will bag a clean-sheet on Sunday, so we are backing both teams to score NO at odds of 4/6 with Betfair in this one.
