Fourth hosts third in the Bundesliga run-in
A huge encounter at the top end of the Bundesliga and challenge to apply pressure on Bayern Munich for the title, also influencing the race for Champions League qualification will take place this Saturday evening at Borussia-Park. Borussia Monchengladbach play host to Borussia Dortmund in what is sure to be a fiery affair from two free flowing attacking teams. The early season pace setters Gladbach are now in fourth place, with a total of 46 points, six behind Bayern, however they have played a match fewer and are just three points behind Red Bull Leipzig in second and two behind their opponents. Dortmund have been going under the radar domestically for a while and are narrow favourites in this match, occupying third position.
Recent form
Both teams have scored in Gladbach’s last five and nine of their last 10 outings at home. Though any optimism about the hosts must combat the fact that BVB have won the last 10 head-to-heads on the bounce, an incredible record, so Lucien Favre’s side are sure to arrive with a spring in their step. Before Marco Rose’s sides’ 1-1 draw with Hoffenheim last time out in front of their home faithful, they had too won 10 in a row, in their most recent home games against German opposition.
Dortmund have scored in their last eight games on the road and have scored 52% of their away league goals after the hour mark, so the hosts cannot afford any lapses in concentration from their back four. Which includes Matthias Ginter, the Germany international will face his former side on Saturday, of which he made 102 appearances for over a three-year period.
Ones to watch
Captain Lars Stindl has been in fine form of late, scoring four in his last three outings, even though he has been subject to frequent squad rotation this campaign. The German forward is nearing 300 matches in the division and could play a key role at the business end of his fifth season at Borussia-Park. Usually deployed in a central attacking role Stindl was the match winner last weekend grabbing two second half goals in a crazy last 45 in Augsburg, his knowhow and skill will play a crucial role should Gladbach get a positive result from this one.
Erling Haaland has four goals in as many games leading into this huge clash and is certain to lead the line for Favre’s men. With the array of attacking talent around him of the likes of Jadon Sancho, Thorgan Hazard and potentially Marco Reus for some of proceedings he looks destined to have a big impact. Betway price him at 17/20 to score at anytime.
A great spectacle for the neutral looks set to entertain and in that goals is the safest bet.
