Fiorentina a fun opponent for La Dea
In the aftermath of Cesare Prandelli’s departure Giuseppe Iachini picks up the pieces and prepares to host high flying Atalanta. Iachini is back at the helm despite being sacked last November, maybe not the most inspiring appointment for La Viola. La Dea will fancy their chances who may benefit from their Champions League exit to solely focus on sealing qualification for the competition for a third consecutive season. Gian Piero Gasperini’s men will have the Coppa Italia final in their sights, they meet Juventus there in mid May, looking to add silverware to the memory of their fairytale.
Process
Atalanta are always strong in their underlying numbers but have been able to sustain that despite the loss of Papu Gomez to Sevilla in January. The visitors have been free scoring as ever this term, overperforming to slam home 68 goals from 57 expected ranking them second and third for those metrics. The top seven race has been exciting this season in Serie A but now into the final stretch La Dea look favourites to muscle their way ahead of huge clubs like Roma, Lazio and Napoli to seal a top four finish. Defensively the signing of Cristian Romero has improved them enormously, they have the third best expected goals against figures in the league and taking some workload away from the attack has benefitted their push.
Fiorentina are a run of the mill mid table side in Serie A. They have the potential to be looking forwards rather than over their shoulders but it has been a disappointing campaign all the same, La Viola are eight points above the drop with eight to go, therefore still have a little work to do to ensure they are in Serie A for 2021/22.
Goals?
Serie A has been arguably the most entertaining division in the top five leagues this season, this fixture suits that narrative, these sides can come back from the international break with a bang.
- Fiorentina have scored in eight of 10.
- Fiorentina have conceded in nine of 10.
- Fiorentina have seen both teams score in seven of 10.
- Fiorentina have seen over 2.5 goals in six of 10.
- Atalanta have scored in eight of 10.
- Atalanta have conceded in seven of 10.
- Atalanta have seen both teams score in five of 10.
- Atalanta have seen over 2.5 goals in five of 10.
An old school Atalanta punt, with their fair share of internationals they may come in a little underprepared for the challenge of Iachini’s Fiorentina.
