All eyes on relegation on Swiss League final day
With all but the relegation battle fixed up heading into the final matchday of the Swiss Super League, all eyes will be on the fortunes of Thun and Sion in ninth and eighth place. Sion travel to fourth placed Servette, while Thun take a trip to seventh placed Zurich. The latter arguably in the driving seat to stay up, despite both sides being in fine form. In a table of the last ten matches, Thun are fourth and Sion sixth, but now they must turn up in the biggest game of the season. Thun are one place and one point above Sion on 37 points from 35 outings.
Background
The visitors have picked up 12 points from their last six games to keep Sion at bay, a return that they would have expected to have them safe on the day of the final game. The way it is they made need all three points against Zurich. Monday’s hosts have lost their last six matches in a row, only scoring two goals in that time, causing Thun to be pretty strong favourites for this encounter. But will the pressure get to them?
Key men
Thun’s top scorer this season is number nine Ridge Munsy, he has come good for them when they have needed him most in scoring four times in the last six games. Including a crucial winner at home to title contenders St. Gallen a few games ago. The 31-year-old is approaching 100 appearances for the club, in which this is his second spell with, and the fans will be hanging their hats on him to show up and save them from relegation. He has scored 26 competitive goals for Thun.
Next up let us highlight Thun’s creator-in-chief Miguel Castroman. The former Young Boys youngster has watched his former club lift the title over the weekend, maybe fueling his desire to stay and compete in Switzerland’s topflight. The 25-year-old has contributed four goals and nine assists this term, by far his best return in the Swiss Super League. Usually deployed just behind Munsy, Castroman will have a big say on the game from in between the Zurich midfield and defence.
With half an eye on proceedings in Servette, this really is a huge match and it is likely the visitors will have to take all three points to maintain their topflight status for the 2020/21 season.

A late rally to come from 3-0 down to draw 3-3 in the last 20 minutes was not enough to save Thun. Almost one of the greatest comebacks in the history of football, but they now face relegation. With Sion staying up at their expense with a 2-1 win at Servette.
