Dynamo Moscow to get back to winning ways at home
Game day two in the Russian Premier League presents an opportunity for Dynamo Moscow and Rubin Kazan to build on their 1-1 away draws in the season opener. A recently incredibly evenly matched encounter rears its head once more as Kazan travel to Arena Khimki without a win there since 2014. The team from the capital come into this one as favourites but Kazan were impressive last time out and have a squad that are more than capable of pulling off a memorable victory.
Matchday one
Starting with the visitors, Roman Sharonov’s men had a successful trip to Moscow in taking a point off 2018/19 runners up Lokomotiv. It was an impressive defensive effort managing to limit the hosts to four shots on target, young Croatian defender Filip Uremovic was the standout performer in the rearguard. Fresh from playing in the U21 European Championships, Uremovic showed his potential in dealing with big Portuguese striker, Eder, very effectively. He won two tackles and three aerial duels as Kazan stayed in the game to pounce late on through substitute Khvicha Kvaratskhelia. The 18-year-old Georgian midfielder was thrown on for his debut against his former club and came up with the goods in the 76th minute to equalise. Another new signing in right-back Oleg Danchenko got the assist and was Kazan’s man of the match, with a 90% pass completion rate on debut having joined from Shakhtar Donetsk in the summer.
Miguel Cardoso got Dynamo’s goal in their respective 1-1 draw at Arsenal Tula in a match they will be disappointed they could not see out, with centre-back Gija Grigalava getting a late equaliser for the hosts. The widemen of the 4-2-3-1 formation were the biggest positive for Moscow, with Joaozinho also starting the season strongly from the left flank, he was only dispossessed once and completed 88% of passes.
2018/19
Only three points and one place separated these two last season with Kazan narrowly ahead. The pattern continues with both clashes ending in 1-1 draws as both had very disappointing campaigns. The strengths of both sets of players lies in defence and if it were to end even, Rubin Kazan would walk away the happier side having come across a misfiring Lokomotiv Moscow last time out. They will have to improve on that performance to get a replicated or better result in this one.
Dynamo Moscow to turn it on in front of their home crowd and narrowly get over the line against an inferior Rubin Kazan, following some astute transfer business from the hosts.

A terrible finishing display from Moscow saw Rubin Kazan snatch a 95th minute winner on the break. The visitors had to play with 10 men from the 36th minute, but Dynamo Moscow could not break the deadlock missing a handful of guilt edged chances in the closing moments before Kazan scored with the last kick of the game to compile misery on Dmitri Khokhlov's men.
