Chicago Fire to end losing streak against the Crew

Chicago Fire take on Columbus Crew at the SeatGeek Stadium with the visitors coming into this one approaching their worst run of form in MLS history. Fire have had an equally poor season, only one place above the Crew in 11th, so both sides are in desperate need for a victory to keep their playoff hopes alive. It will be interesting to see if Veljko Paunovic reshuffles his pack with star man Nicolas Gaitan having missed two penalties in their last outing, a 2-1 defeat at home to the one side below these two in the Eastern Conference, Cincinnati.

Recent form

The Men in Red are looking to end a run of two consecutive losses going into this one, however that form is very modest in comparison, to the horror season Columbus Crew are currently enduring. With only goal difference keeping them from hitting rock bottom. The past suggests the hosts will get the win on Thursday as they have not lost three in a row since last August, and they are strongest at the SeatGeek with 86.36% of their points and 75% of their goals being achieved there this season. Furthermore, they have only lost in this identical fixture once in the last 17 editions of it, winning and drawing eight times.

The Crew’s dreadful run quantifies to 13 losses in 15, including eight straight defeats on the road and losing on Thursday would be their first run of six consecutive losses in MLS history. They have not managed a goal in three of their recent five visits to the SeatGeek, additionally failing to score in six of their last eight away matches.

Ones to Watch

Fire no. 9 CJ Sapong is alike to the rest of the squad in the sense that his best form this season has come at home. He has eight for a season, significantly a brace in a 5-1 win over fourth-placed Atlanta United on Independence Day, Chicago are unbeaten in every home game where Sapong has got on the scoresheet this term, (2W, 2D). Nicolas Gaitan though is the hosts’ star man, four goals and eight assists this season, the 31-year-old has been there and done it at the highest level having spent six years with Benfica before moving to La Liga giants, Atletico Madrid for £25 million.

The Crew’s one hope of resurrecting their season lies with USA international Gyasi Zardes who has performed well individually without sufficient support this term. He has registered six goals and one assist to add to the 20 goals in his outstanding 2018 debut season with the franchise, having joined from LA Galaxy.

Chicago Fire – Columbus Crew Betting Tip

Fire will learn from their mistakes against Cincinnati and put in an improved performance, however Columbus could trump them in that and pull off a shock here with both sides in poor form.
