Stamford Bridge's bright lights
The Champions League is finally back and the best teams in Europe do battle against each other for the first time this season on Tuesday evening. Chelsea welcome Valencia to Stamford Bridge's bright lights and without further ado, let's get into it.
Chelsea
Frank's men will be absolutely brimming with confidence after thumping Wolverhampton 5-2(!) away from home. A lot of the pre-game discussion was about whether or not their would be a shift in power regarding the top 6 spots and how hard of a time Chelsea would have away at Wolves but boy were they wrong.
Chelski tore apart Wolverhampton with youngsters Abraham, Mount and Tomori playing absolutely fantastic football. The doubters claiming that the blue's starting line-up is too young have definitely been silenced, if only temporarily.
Now onto the negative stuff. Chelsea's defence has been under critique and rightly so, they have shipped a massive 11 goals in 5 games but have gotten by due to their potent goalscoring ability. Valencia have immense talent in their ranks and if Chelsea's defence is as calamitous as it has been they be in for a tough time come Tuesday evening.
Valencia
If Chelsea come into this game in high spirits the same cannot be said about about Albert Celades's men who suffered a 5-2 defeat at the hands of Barcelona away from home, which is honestly to be expected.
Los Ches may not have had the start to the season they were hoping for but i firmly believe they will turn it around and get their top 4 bid back on track. A worrying statistic is however that the bats have not won a Champions League away game in their last 5 outings and Stamford Bridge will not exactly be an easier destination to those prior.
Despite Valencia's average start to the season they can take solace from the fact that they managed to score twice against Barcelona this past weekend and i'd make the case that Barcelona's defence is a tad bit better than Chelsea's at the moment meaning that they could very well score a couple against their poor defence.
Betting tip
Both teams have been involved in high-scoring games which means that i will be backing Over 2.5 goals at the very fair odds of 19/20 with Bethard.
