Bayern München to start with a bang
The Bundesliga kicks off this weekend and first out are reigning Champions FC Bayern München and Hertha BSC. Can the team from the capital surprise the behemoths or will Bayern start their title-defence by swatting them aside?
Bayern Munich
Niko Kovac's men have had a very mixed preseason consisting of 4 wins, a draw and 3 defeats with the 2-0 defeat to Dortmund in the DFL-Supercup (German Super cup) 2 weeks ago being the most worrisome due to Bayern fielding their strongest possible XI.
However, despite the average preseason i would not worry too much because at the end of the day it is just that, a preseason. I am feeling pretty confident that the level of intensity come Friday will be on a whole other level and Bayern will pick up where they left off last season when they went undefeated for 14 games.
Bayerns biggest issue last season was their defensive frailty, they only managed a clean sheet in 40% of their games which, to be honest, was not that big of a deal due to the fact that they managed to score 3 or more goals in a whopping 18 out of their 34 games but it was still something that needed to be addressed.
They may have lost Hummels to Dortmund but have brought in Lucas Hernandez from Atletico and Benjamin Pavard from Stuttgart to cover up as long-term replacements and if i were a Bayern fan i would be absolutely buzzing.
Hertha Berlin
The Berliner's have been banging in goals for the fun of it during their preseason with a few examples being their most recent win against 4th division Eichstatt with 5-1 as well as wins against Premier League outfits Crystal Palace and West ham which ended 4-0 and 5-3 respectively.
Ante Covic's men will be feeling confident after a strong preseason but we all know that travelling to Allianz arena is too tall of an order for any team, let alone a mid-table outfit.
I have a soft-spot for Hertha having followed them for a while as well as using them in football manager but playing at Bayerns home turf for most teams is more about damage control rather then aiming to snag a point or 3 and that is the case for Hertha too.
I do believe that they will be fighting for the Europa league spots but only after matchday 1.
Bayern Munich - Hertha Berlin Betting tip
In a game like this, the question is more how much they will win with rather than if they win. The tricky bit is finding a bet with solid value but i believe that i have found the one! I will be backing Bayern München -1.75 asian handicap at 13/20 with Bethard.
