Atletico to keep momentum rolling at Alaves

Atletico Madrid travel to 14thplaced Alaves in the hope of extending their unbeaten run to 10 games, Diego Simeone’s side sit fourth in La Liga having failed to capitalise on the slow starts of their direct title rivals, Real Madrid and Barcelona. Asier Garitano’s men have been inconsistent of late alternately winning and losing in their last five, with a rise to form of summer signing Lucas Perez. Atleti will be hoping similar fortunes of the 2018/19 campaign of which they battered Alaves three and 4-0 home and away, El Glorioso drifted down to an 11th placed finish in that season.

Recent form

The Mattress Makers come into this one looking the stronger outfit having won their last two games in all competitions, Alvaro Morata’s strike gave them a 1-0 win over Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League matchday three and the former Chelseaman backed that up by bagging at the weekend accompanied by Saul Niguez contributing to a 2-0 victory over Athletic Bilbao once again at the Wanda Metropolitano.

Alaves will take confidence into Tuesday evening’s encounter having won two home games on the spin in between three straight losses on the road. El Glorioso beat Mallorca and Celta Vigoboth 2-0 thanks to key man Perez, who has found the net in each of the last four matches. Underdogs for this one the hosts have managed half of their league total of eight goals in their last two home games which is surprisingly only two less than Tuesday’s visitors who are 10 places above them in the table.

Lucas Perez Vs Alvaro Morata

Two in form marksman will lead the line going into this one with both looking to continue their hot streaks in front of goal. Of contrasting experiences but similar styles, it is certain that the ex-Juventus and Real Madrid forward has the better supporting cast however Perez is clever and will relish the challenge of the resolute defence Simeone sets up. The 31-year-old has already topped his league goal tally for West Ham United in 2018/19 with four strikes in 10 appearances compared to 3 in 15 for the Hammers.

Alaves will be out fought in front of the home crowd despite their recent performances and the momentum will carry on for Atleti, enjoying their first away trip in four straight outings.
