Lazio to take a leap towards the Champions League
Lazio head to the San Siro this weekend with their hopes of Champions League qualification hanging by a thread but taking points off their rivals could be massive.
Games running out for Lazio
After last season’s heartbreak at the hands of Inter, Lazio are going to need to pick up wins over a couple of their rivals if they are to secure a place in the Champions League.
Currently, they sit three points behind 5th place AC Milan and 4th place Atalanta with both still to play.
The Biancocelesti have drawn nine times this season, more than any of their rivals in the top eight and this has proven costly.
The last two games have seen them drop points in a defeat at struggling SPAL and a 2-2 home draw against Sassuolo so getting back to winning ways at the San Siro will give them a huge boost.
Milan fading
It is hard to see AC Milan finishing in the top four if their current form is anything to go by. The Rossoneri have not tasted victory in any of their last four games, picking up just one point in the process.
Defeats to Juventus, Sampdoria and, worst of all, Inter has seen them fail to cement a Champions League place that looked so certain following a run of ten games unbeaten between Boxing Day and March 9. The five straight wins that preceded this recent slump must seem like a distant memory to Milan supporters.
The game against Lazio is their most difficult fixture remaining and a win for the Rossoneri could see them reassert their advantage in the race for the top four.
Piatek vs Immobile
The advantage of having a regular goal scorer has never been more apparent to both these sides. Milan fans have been thrilled with the way Krzysztof Piatek has hit the ground running since signing from Genoa.
The Polish international has proven his doubters' wrong hitting double figures for Milan already and showing that the Rossoneri have a striker they can build the team. He currently leads the Serie A scoring charts with 21 goals in just 30 appearances.
Lazio have their own striking sensation in Ciro Immobile. The former Torino forward has been a key player ever since signing for the Biancocelesti and has hit 14 goals in Serie A this campaign.
There is a lot of pressure on the striker with the next highest scorer in the team netting just four.
Betting tip
With Milan in poor form and Lazio’s need greater backing the Bianocelesti to win at odds of 19/10 is my tip of the weekend in Serie A.
