Improved Leeds to take confidence to Molineux
Leeds United picked up an enormous 2-1 win over Norwich City last weekend with Joe Gelhardt snatching all three points for the Whites in second half additional time.
Wolverhampton Wanderers have been one of the more funky Premier League sides this season, so excellent defensively they have been close to building a push for European football, while looking like relegation fodder in the final third.
Jesse Marsch has looked to make Leeds a bit more defensively, which appeared to be necessary with the Whites looking worryingly over their shoulders at the bottom three.
Process
Jose Sa has had an incredible debut season at Wolves, playing a huge role in the club incredibly overperforming their expected goals (xG) against, at an unsustainable rate, but a performance that has placed them firmly inside the top half of the Premier League.
Wolves have conceded just 23 goals from 29 games despite allowing 40.2 xGA, at an average of 1.39 xGA per game.
Going forward they have been worse than the visitors though, hence why they have struggled to push up into the top four conversation.
Wolves have scored 29 goals from as many games, creating chances at an average of 1.17 xGF per game.
Raul Jimenez has not been as effective as he was before his injury and Bruno Lage may be looking to dip into the transfer market to bring in a new striker this summer.
Leeds have been the second worst defensive side in the division according to xG, although they were certainly more open under Marcelo Bielsa it must be said.
The Whites have conceded 65 goals, the most in the league, from 57 xGA, at an average of 1.97 xGA per game, something that Wolves will be hoping to take advantage of.
Goals?
Overs was tempting but I am not too sure how much faith we can put in Leeds’ attacking contingent, from such a small sample size under Marsch.
Wolves have scored in six of ten.
Wolves have conceded in seven of ten.
Wolves have seen both teams score in three of ten.
Wolves have seen over 2.5 goals in four of ten.
Leeds have scored in four of ten.
Leeds have conceded in all of their last 16.
Leeds have seen both teams score in four of ten.
Leeds have seen over 2.5 goals in eight of ten.
This could be a very enticing encounter to kick-off the weekend with Lage locking horns with Marsch.
