Crazy Lazio to entertain in Venice
Venezia have been an excellent addition to Serie A this season and they will be chomping at the bit for the occasion that is hosting Lazio on the cusp of the winter break. The Winged Lions have been helped by the desperate form of the teams below them and have the opportunity to extend their commanding seven point cushion on the relegation zone on Wednesday evening. Lazio have been entertaining to say the least under Maurizio Sarri but not in such a way that suggests they will be able to push themselves back into contention to finish into the top four. The visitors come in as strong odds on favourites even though they are trending as a mid table side.
Process
There is plenty of work still to do for Venezia who rank 19th on expected points, and with certainly Genoa and maybe others having the potential to vastly improve in the second half of the season, they will have to stay on their game to ensure they maintain their top-flight status this season. Sarri will be hoping to install an element of control into the way Lazio play and in that stop them conceding goals at such a rate.
Venezia run pretty much exactly in line with their expected goals (xG) figures in attack and defence, but where Lazio could not be more different with goals flying in left right and centre. The Eagles have scored 36 from 23.4 xGF which is definitely unsustainable along with conceding 33 from 24.9 xGA. It has been a hectic first half of the season for Lazio which will concern Sarri on whether they can achieve their objectives this term, unless they recruit smartly in January it looks to be a campaign of mid table mediocrity.

Both have been thoroughly entertaining and that is how I hope this match plays out. Hopefully, the variance that will limit Lazio’s unsustainable goals at both ends will kick in after the winter break.
