Stubborn Burnley to stand firm at Old Trafford
Manchester United welcome Burnley in the only Premier League action of Thursday evening as the busy schedule continues while we edge towards 2022. It has been a very disappointing 2021 for the Red Devils, losing in the final of the Europa League and struggling to keep pace with the top four in the first half of this season means that Ralf Rangnick will be even more determined to end the year on a positive note. The Red Devils were disappointing in their 1-1 draw with Newcastle United and have a lot of ground to make up if they are to finish in the top four this season.
Background
The London trio of Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United are looking the most likely to stand in Manchester United’s way in the second half of the season. The hot seat at Old Trafford is a little less of an attractive proposition without the club competing in the Champions League.
Burnley have not played for over two and half weeks due to coronavirus and bad weather, therefore they should be a little fresher than United, but that does not mean that they have the upper hand. With the talent at Rangnick’s disposal it is not a surprise to see them overwhelming favourites in this encounter.
Process
Burnley have not been as watertight as we have become accustomed to this term, but Sean Dyche will be hoping to improve that in their survival bid in the second half of the season. United are still lagging behind the field when it comes to their expected goals (xG) process, there has been an improvement in defence since Rangnick’s appointment but they continue to struggle in the final third. I am happy to lean on Burnley’s stubborn defensive resilience in my angle for this encounter.
Goals?
I am suggesting an unders play on the Asian Goal Line for this matchup.
- United have scored in nine of ten.
- United have conceded in seven of ten.
- United have seen both teams score in six of ten.
- United have seen over 2.5 goals in three of ten.
- Burnley have scored in four of ten.
- Burnley have conceded in seven of ten.
- Burnley have seen both teams score in four of ten.
- Burnley have seen over 2.5 goals in three of ten.
United have only scored more than one goal once in their last seven Premier League games. Burnley can keep the margins small in this fixture.
