Adversity to bring the best out of Spurs
Leicester City handsomely beat Newcastle United 4-0 on Sunday and kept their first clean sheet in 17 outings as well. Tottenham Hotspur will be very fresh at the King Power Stadium on Thursday evening having not played since 5th December and have been gradually improving under Antonio Conte. Finishing in the top four of the Premier League this season could be a bridge too far but I for one, am certainly on board with Spurs comfortably making their way into the top six. However, there is an uncertainty over what kind of team the North Londoners will be able to field amid some positive tests for coronavirus in the last few days.
Process
These two have been poor in their underlying expected goals (xG) process this term. The Foxes have been concerningly bad and do not look like a team who will be competing for a European place this season, with Spurs woeful under Nuno Espirito Santo before achieving the coup of appointing Conte. The main stumbling block has been in the attacking third for Spurs, Harry Kane is yet to get going but Tottenham are sixth for defensive process.
If the North Londoners can start to click in the final third they will climb up the table. Leicester rank 17th in the division for defensive process with the likes of Caglar Soyuncu really struggling this time around. I am not reading too much into Leicester’s thumping win over the Magpies, another very poor side in the division and the scoreline flattered them when compared to the quality of chances they created.
Goals?
A potential option, this one is quite unpredictable given Tottenham’s state of affairs off the pitch, I feel more comfortable using the Asian Handicap and backing Antonio Conte to find a solution.
- Leicester have scored in eight of ten.
- Leicester have conceded in nine of ten.
- Leicester have seen both teams score in seven of ten.
- Leicester have seen over 2.5 goals in seven of ten.
- Spurs have scored in six of ten.
- Spurs have conceded in six of ten.
- Spurs have seen both teams score in three of ten.
- Spurs have seen over 2.5 goals in five of ten.
The Foxes will fancy their chances, however Spurs have picked up in recent weeks and the trying circumstances may inspire the available players to put in a positive performance.
