Wolves trending in the right direction
In need of a win to pull away from the relegation conversation Leeds United play host to Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday. Despite a slow start results wise Wolves have been very good this season according to the underlying numbers. Bruno Lage has put together an intriguing team with plenty of attacking outlets and in that has a Wolves side that excites supporters a lot more than Nuno Espirito Santo’s did particularly last season. Adama Traore is yet to catch fire this term but he is a player capable of winning a game on his own and could terrorise a leaky Leeds backline on Saturday afternoon.
Process
Wolves are looking very very good. Without labelling them the Brighton and Hove Albion of last season, Wolves sit third on expected points compared to tenth in the table with some seriously good expected goals (xG) data.
Lage’s men have scored eight goals from 14.1 xG, sustain the process and they will sore up the table. Wolves have the second best defensive process in the division allowing just 8.4 xGA so far this season and conceding eight goals from those chances.
Leeds rank 18th in offense and defence, scoring seven from 9.0 going forward and conceding 15 from 15.2 at the back. In terms of xG it is clear who the better side is here, and therefore there is plenty of value to pounce on with Wolves going in as underdogs at Elland Road.
Goals?
I prefer an outright punt here but an unders shout may have legs given how solid Wolves have been.
- Leeds have scored in seven of ten.
- Leeds have conceded in seven of ten.
- Leeds have seen both teams score in five of ten.
- Leeds have seen over 2.5 goals in five of ten.
- Wolves have scored in six of ten.
- Wolves have conceded in seven of ten.
- Wolves have seen both teams score in three of ten.
- Wolves have seen over 2.5 goals in four of ten.
Wolves are trending like a side who could spring up the table and get on a very positive run. They flirted with the Champions League spots at times under Santo and there is no doubt that this squad is capable of doing it again with the talent they possess. Yet to click in the final third there is room for improvement that could see Leeds on the end of a hammering on Saturday.
