Juve to make up for lost time?
Juventus play host to Atalanta in one of the more high profile European fixtures this weekend. Both sides were in Champions League action in midweek and arrive on Saturday evening with a lot to play for. A victory for La Dea on their travels would push them seven points clear of Massimiliano Allegri’s men as Juve have endured a very slow start to the campaign. Gian Piero Gasperini’s men have been as entertaining as ever this season and will not be phased by the big occasion in Turin. Juve are favourites to take all three points and claw their way towards the top four positions.
Background
AC Milan and Napoli are flying high at the top of the division with Inter Milan looking to throw their names in the ring as reigning champions. The two Rome clubs and these two appear to be battling for the spots behind them and will be desperate to get themselves into a good position ahead of the January transfer window.
Process
Juve’s expected goals (xG) process is more encouraging than their league position of eighth and will be hoping to showcase their improvement against quality opposition in this matchup. The Old Lady have underperformed in both boxes and actually rank as the third best defensive unit in the division, only allowing 1.12 xGA per game on average, which should stand them in good stead against one of the most free-scoring sides in Europe in recent years.
La Dea continue to dazzle in the final third and have scored 27 goals from 23.9 xG so far this season. A slight overperformance but one that has been the case consistently in Serie A for Gasperini’s perennial entertainers.
Goals?
The angle for this one as it so often is with Atalanta games. This could be a very open and enterprising encounter.
- Juve have scored in nine of ten.
- Juve have conceded in five of ten.
- Juve have seen both teams score in four of ten.
- Juve have seen over 2.5 goals in four of ten.
- Atalanta have scored in all of their last 16.
- Atalanta have conceded in ten of ten.
- Atalanta have seen both teams score in ten of ten.
- Atalanta have seen over 2.5 goals in nine of ten.
Hold onto your hats, I have combined a goals and unders play that provides a little bit of value at around 1.80.
