Super Sunday Toffee Hammers could be exciting
Both Everton and West Ham United have enjoyed impressive starts to the season with the Hammers still dwelling on a late defeat at home to Brentford last time out. Rafael Benitez has made a good start to life in the Goodison Park dugout with the Toffees, as they are every year, hoping to push for European football. David Moyes’ men have European exploits of their own in the form of the Europa League and will be following this match with a midweek trip to Belgium to take on Genk. Everton are narrow favourites but the Hammers will be a threat with the returning Moyes hoping to get one over his former employers.
Process
The Toffees have scored 13 from 11.6 expected goals (xG) and conceded eight from 7.5, a stable process in the top six but their backline has been particularly impressive and ranks third in the division. For the visitors it has been all about the offensive contingent this season with Michail Antonio and Pablo Fornals in particular playing at the top of their game.
The Hammers have the third best attacking process in the division with 14 goals from 13.2 xGF, or 1.89 xGF per game. The Londoners however are not as effective in the back and it does seem a little surprising that Lukasz Fabianski is being preferred to Alphonse Areola between the sticks. They have conceded 10 from 10.0 xGA which puts them 11th compared to the rest of the clubs in the league.
Goals?
Part of my angle in here, Everton have looked solid at times this season but will have their work cut out against this excellent Hammers attacking unit.
- Everton have scored in eight of nine.
- Everton have conceded in seven of nine.
- Everton have seen both teams score in six of nine.
- Everton have seen over 2.5 goals in six of nine.
- West Ham have scored in nine of ten.
- West Ham have conceded in six of ten.
- West Ham have seen both teams score in six of ten.
- West Ham have seen over 2.5 goals in six of ten.
My selection is both teams to score, Everton could scupper us with their solid defence but West Ham have been so good at times in offense that the BTTS is the most appealing bet in this game.
