Goodison feeling to push Toffees forward

Everton have shown some shoots of recovery under Frank Lampard but are still a long way off the side that has achieved top half finishes with ease over the years.

The Toffees appear to be looking to the future at least by hiring the former Chelsea legend after Rafael Benitez’ reign that did not seem to be a good fit for either party.

Leeds United are six points the Toffees’ superiors in the table and boast a six point cushion over the relegation zone.

Marcelo Bielsa’s men have certainly not been at their best this season, but they have done enough to pull clear of the drop conversation and will be looking to build for the 2022/23 campaign in the final third of the season.

Process

It is hard to split the two sides in the attacking third.

Both have been below the high standards they set last season and have not been able to make themselves comfortable in games because of that.

Defensively, the Toffees have been a little better than Leeds and with the home crowd rallying behind Lampard it is not a surprise to see Everton strong favourites at quite a short price given their form in the league this season.

Everton are conceding 1.73 expected goals against (xGA) on average, with Leeds 1.90 xGA and despite the poor result at Newcastle United last time out, the visit of the Whites presents an opportunity to start pushing up the table.

A top half finish, to put some gloss on an otherwise very forgettable campaign, is still on for both these sides and could be valuable in carrying over some belief into the 2022/23 season.

Goals?

Leeds used to be a lock for overs away from home last season, however they have been less enterprising this time around, both sides will fancy their chances of getting on the scoresheet but an outright play looks more appealing.

  • Everton have scored in nine of ten.

  • Everton have conceded in all of their last 12.

  • Everton have seen both teams score in nine of ten.

  • Everton have seen over 2.5 goals in eight of ten.

  • Leeds have scored in six of ten.

  • Leeds have conceded in eight of ten, and their last eight on the bounce.

  • Leeds have seen both teams score in five of ten.

  • Leeds have seen over 2.5 goals in six of ten.

An opportunity for both sides, but given the personnel at his disposal and Leeds’ timid attacking process, the Toffees are the ones to get onside here for me.

Half our stake will be returned if the game ends in a draw.
