West Ham far from out in Frankfurt
The onus is on West Ham United to earn their place in the Europa League final as they travel to Eintracht Frankfurt 2-1 down from the first leg at the London Stadium.
The Hammers were much the better side against Oliver Glasner’s men but could not force their way through and instead will have to overcome a one goal deficit to keep their dream of a European final alive.
David Moyes’ men will have good memories from their 3-0 second leg victory in Lyon in the quarter final to draw on as inspiration, with the Hammers upsetting the odds on more than one occasion in the competition already.
Daichi Kamada grabbed the winner for the Eagles at the London Stadium, the Japan international will be crucial for the hosts.
Background
Glasner is a very defensive manager, therefore it is not a surprise to see the club struggle in the Bundesliga this season but thrive in the Europa League.
With a place in the final at stake, it will not be a surprise to see the Eagles drop ten yards and allow the Hammers to have possession in looking to break them down.
In Michail Antonio, Jarrod Bowen and Declan Rice, the Hammers will be hoping that they have the guile to break down a stubborn low block.
But it could be down to the more astute ball carriers in Pablo Fornals and Said Benrahma to do the business this time, the tie is far from over at this stage.
The Hammers got through their 2-1 defeat at home to Arsenal unscathed, despite Moyes fielding a strong team, and they will be prepared to leave everything on the pitch at Deutsche Bank Park.
Goals?
An unders play does tempt me, but in knockout football it is a risk, should West Ham take an early lead this will turn into a very different kind of game.
Eintracht have scored in six of ten.
Eintracht have conceded in seven of ten.
Eintracht have seen both teams score in five of ten.
Eintracht have seen over 2.5 goals in four of ten.
West Ham have scored in eight of ten.
West Ham have conceded in eight of ten.
West Ham have seen both teams score in six of ten.
West Ham have seen over 2.5 goals in five of ten.
West Ham have played with a lot of spirit in the competition, and the bookmakers are offering considerable value on them drawing on that to turn the tide in my opinion.
