Chelsea to do professional job on Brighton
Chelsea produced an important comeback win at Aston Villa last time out, with Romelu Lukaku announcing himself after returning from injury with a goal and big hand in the Blues’ third. Jorginho’s confidence from the penalty spot continued as he beat Emiliano Martinez twice to cancel out Reece James’ first half own goal. It was not vintage Chelsea, but Thomas Tuchel’s men controlled the game in central areas and Lukaku’s influence will give them a lift in belief that they can get back to competing with Liverpool and Manchester City at the top of the division. Brighton and Hove Albion ended an 11 game winless run when they got the better of Brentford to a 2-0 scoreline with a very assured performance. Leandro Trossard and Neal Maupay proved the difference with the Seagulls able to limit the Bees’ chance creation very effectively.
Process
Both sides are trending exactly in line with their expected points in the league table. Chelsea have the third best expected goals (xG) process in the division and rank third in the table, while Brighton are also ninth for both measures. The Seagulls have struggled in the final third once again this season, but have not been creating chances as often as they did last term, leaning on their solid backline even more and trending as a mid table side. Despite having relegation concerns last season, the Seagulls were performing like a side who could have been competing for European football if they had been more composed in both boxes.
The Blues are producing 2.06 xGF per game on average compared to just 1.28 for the visitors, it is clear to see who has the more potent attacking contingent. Psychologically the win at Villa was very important, Steven Gerrard’s men have been improving steadily since he took to the helm and Chelsea made light work of them to end a run of just one win in four league outings.
Goals?
Unders appeals as both sides are so strong defensively.
- Chelsea have scored in nine of ten.
- Chelsea have conceded in seven of ten.
- Chelsea have seen both teams score in seven of ten.
- Chelsea have seen over 2.5 goals in six of ten.
- Brighton have scored in seven of ten.
- Brighton have conceded in eight of ten.
- Brighton have seen both teams score in six of ten.
- Brighton have seen over 2.5 goals in three of ten.
Brighton have been on the slide for a while and Chelsea should be able to do a professional job here amid a busy calendar.
