Ranieri's days numbered ahead of six pointer?
Burnley welcome Watford to Turf Moor on Wednesday evening in hoping to climb out of the relegation zone in victory over the Hornets. Watford were defeated by Brentford last time out with the Clarets earning a respectable goalless draw against high flying West Ham United. Burnley have endured a slow start to the season and a very quiet summer transfer window. It feels like Sean Dyche’s job is getting harder year on year but in the last month or so there have been signs that the Clarets are set to pull themselves towards comfortable safety yet again. Since beating Manchester United, Watford have lost four on the bounce which would suggest that Claudio Ranieri’s days in the dugout are numbered if results do not turn very soon.
Process
Watford have put in some encouraging displays at times this season with the most positive moments coming in the attacking third, however they are not in good knick heading into this one and Burnley will be confident of taking advantage. This matchup sees 18th host 17th and that ranking is the same for the league table and the expected goals (xG) standings.
It is a very evenly matched encounter, Burnley are 18th going forward where Watford sit 12th, and Watford and 18th in their rearguard while Burnley sit 12th. The Clarets have played one less than the newly promoted Hornets and have stepped up their game in the attacking third in recent weeks. The restored home advantage could have a significant role to play in this game, with it coming to close to being a relegation six pointer.
Burnley can create a pretty hostile atmosphere and they certainly have one up on Watford, when looking at their personnel and the experience of battling for survival in the top-flight, compared to the visitors’.
Goals?
Not an angle for me, the lines are pretty spot on, unders was considered but I have plumped for an outright play instead.
- Burnley have scored in four of ten.
- Burnley have conceded in seven of ten.
- Burnley have seen both teams score in four of ten.
- Burnley have seen over 2.5 goals in three of ten.
- Watford have scored in six of ten.
- Watford have conceded in all of their last 15.
- Watford have seen both teams score in six of ten.
- Watford have seen over 2.5 goals in seven of ten.
Burnley come into this one in better shape and with what is at stake, may see it as a must win.
