Desperate Burnley welcome buzzing Bees
Brentford travel to winless Burnley on Saturday with a building injury list off the back of earning their spot in the last eight of the League Cup on Wednesday evening. David Raya, Bryan Mbeumo, Ethan Pinnock, Yoane Wissa, Vitaly Janelt, Shandon Baptiste, Mads Bech Sorensen and Josh DaSilva are currently on the treatment table but Thomas Frank will do all he can to fire up his squad in looking to push back into the top half of the table. The Bees have been a breath of fresh air in the Premier League and will want to avoid looking over their shoulders for as long as possible.
Process
Despite dropping to 12th in the table the visitors are fifth in the expected goals (xG) standings. Bees have scored 11 from 13.9 xGF averaging 1.54 xGF per game compared to 1.20 for Burnley. Brentford have conceded nine from 9.8 xGA, ranking them second for defensive process with the Clarets 15th conceding 1.72 xGA per game.
Ben Mee returned in the League Cup in midweek which is an enormous boost for Burnley who will be very concerned that their time has come in the Premier League this season. Sean Dyche has done an incredible job to have the club competing in the top-flight for a sixth consecutive season and even see them finish seventh once to earn a spot in Europa League qualifiers.
Goals?
Unders could be an option with a draw probably a satisfactory result for both sides. Bees have been excellent at the back and will fancy their chances of shutting out the Clarets’ attacking contingent.
- Burnley have scored in five of ten.
- Burnley have conceded in eight of ten.
- Burnley have seen both teams score in five of ten.
- Burnley have seen over 2.5 goals in four of ten.
- Brentford have scored in eight of ten.
- Brentford have conceded in eight of ten.
- Brentford have seen both teams score in six of ten.
- Brentford have seen over 2.5 goals in six of ten.
Brentford are the better team here, there is no doubt about that, however their busier schedule and busy treatment will make the trip tougher than it would be otherwise. Burnley will be desperate to avoid going through their opening ten without a win and therefore leaning on the Asian Handicap to get Brentford onside is my prepared selection.
