Defences to shine on the South Coast

Brighton and Hove Albion are grateful for the strong start they made to the season as they are now looking over their shoulders having failed to win in their last 11. Brentford’s form has slowed considerably as well but not to the concerning extent of the Seagulls’. The Bees lost out 1-0 at home to Brighton with Leandro Trossard scoring a dramatic late winner, but Thomas Frank’s men will be confident of earning revenge on the South Coast. The hosts are odds on favourites, possibly due to their squad depth with it difficult to predict the effect coronavirus will have on two line-ups.

Process

Brighton have an attacking process that could have them battling relegation this season, having scored just 14 from 20.9 expected goals (xG) this term they have been quite toothless, particularly in the last couple of months. Consistently poor relegated sides has kept the Seagulls up in recent years and appears prominent once again this term with Brighton and Brentford likely to have nothing to worry about even with the dips in form they have and will continue to suffer.

Both sides are stronger in defence, Brighton sit fourth for defensive process with the Bees in seventh in what is stylistically set up to be a very interesting matchup. Brighton play a patient possession based style under Graham Potter where Brentford like to pounce on turnovers and get the ball forward for their dynamic attacking players as soon as possible. The Bees are a threat and a match for anyone who is off their game, both sides can climb into the top half of the division going into Christmas with a win in this one. Brentford could top off an outstanding year.

Goals?

Unders for me, both are better defensively and squad rotation could produce a lack of attacking prowess.

  • Brighton have scored in six of ten.
  • Brighton have conceded in eight of ten.
  • Brighton have seen both teams score in six of ten.
  • Brighton have seen over 2.5 goals in three of ten.
  • Brentford have scored in eight of ten.
  • Brentford have conceded nine of ten.
  • Brentford have seen both teams score in seven of ten.
  • Brentford have seen over 2.5 goals in seven of ten.

Brentford have regressed in front of goal since their brilliant introduction to the league. Brighton could be there for the taking, but a point will be seen as a good result by both sides.
