Brentford a firm test for Rangnick's Red Devils
Brentford host Manchester United on Tuesday evening to kick-off the midweek Premier League action. The non-stop 2021/22 campaign is not letting up and we carry on pushing to value after a below par previous week. Both of these sides picked up a one goal win at the weekend, the Bees came from behind to beat Watford while the Red Devils squeezed past Norwich City thanks to a Cristiano Ronaldo spot kick. The visitors are odds on favourites which does surprise me a touch, considering their unconvincing start under Ralf Rangnick with the Bees already troubling some of the best sides in the division on their home patch this term.
Process
According to expected goals (xG), Brentford are flying compared to United who have been consistently pegged back by a leaky backline this term. The Bees rank sixth going forward and ninth for their defensive process, figures that will give them absolutely no worries over whether or not they will maintain their top-flight status this campaign. Thomas Frank’s side will be bang up for the encounter and will have had an extra day to recover from the weekend’s action.
Brentford (+0.75) on the Asian Handicap is another potential angle into this match but not one that I will be getting involved with. The Red Devils sit 16th for defensive process, which makes it very impressive that Rangnick has been able to keep two clean sheets from his opening two Premier League matches in charge. The Red Devils rank fifth for attacking process and despite the poor start, the general consensus is that they will be able to finish inside the top four places this season.
Goals?
I still cannot put complete faith in the United backline and with Brentford’s ruthless hell for leather attacking brand of football, there is one selection that jumps out.
- Brentford have scored in eight of ten.
- Brentford have conceded in nine of ten.
- Brentford have seen both teams score in seven of ten.
- Brentford have seen over 2.5 goals in seven of ten.
- Man U have scored in nine of ten.
- Man U have conceded in six of ten.
- Man U have seen both teams score in five of ten.
- Man U have seen over 2.5 goals in four of ten.
Brentford have given a very good account of themselves against big six clubs this season and will make sure United earn a victory in West London.
