Bayern seek revenge for heavy cup defeat
Bayern Munich will be looking for revenge when they host Borussia Monchengladbach on Friday evening. Gladbach trounced the Bavarians 5-0 in the DFB Pokal in their last meeting and certainly have it coming at the Allianz Arena. Adi Hutter will be under pressure with the Colts currently occupying 14th place, they are not trending quite that poorly this season but they have still been well below the levels they need to be at to compete for European qualification. Gladbach’s form unravelled quite quickly after Marco Rose’s departure was announced last term and we have seen a hangover from that in the first half of the season. The visitors still have the players to hurt Bayern with Breel Embolo, Marcus Thuram, Alassane Plea, Florian Neuhaus and others still at the club, though there could be some future uncertainty going on in the midst of the January transfer window.
Process
Bayern are set for another comfortable Bundesliga title win and the first under Julien Nagelsmann. The Bavarians are nine points clear at the top at the halfway stage and with that cushion they will be able to focus more on the Champions League in the second half of the campaign. Bayern are comfortably the best team in the division in both boxes and are averaging a whopping 2.82 expected goals (xG) for per game.
Gladbach have remained strong in an attacking sense but with a pretty hopeless rearguard action. They have underperformed significantly to notch just 22 from 30.0 xG and will be hoping to fall on the right side of that variance after the winter break.
Goals?
A potential angle but with Bayern seeking revenge the goals lines are very short. I am predicting an entertaining affair nonetheless though.
- Bayern have scored in all of their last 11. Gladbach were the last side to achieve a shut-out against them.
- Bayern have conceded in six of ten.
- Bayern have seen both teams score in six of ten.
- Bayern have seen over 2.5 goals in nine of ten.
- Gladbach have scored in eight of ten.
- Gladbach have conceded in eight of ten.
- Gladbach have seen both teams score in six of ten.
- Gladbach have seen over 2.5 goals in seven of ten.
Bayern and goals have been a classic selection for a few years now, two attacking sides should produce some Friday evening entertainment, this enticing selection is a shade under evens.
